Mexican GP

The World Constructors Championship (WCC) points are gained by adding the points achieved by each of their cars in each race together. The WCC points gained by each constructor (team) is shown in the following tables, per race and accumulatively.

WCC points, Team points 2024, f1 2024 points

The accumulative points produce this chart, the pursuit for the championship.

WCC Trophy

Red Bull were trying to win a third World Constructors Championship in a row having won the WCC trophy in 2022 and 2023. By the end of the 8th event, Miami, Red Bull was 58 points ahead of Ferrari (2nd) and 115 points ahead of McLaren (3rd).

By the end of the Italian week end, Red Bull were still first but only 8 points ahead McLaren who were now second and 45 points ahead of Ferrari who were now third.

At seasons end Red Bull had failed to capture their 3 WCC trophy in a row. They were third, 77 points behind McLaren who won the championship and 57 behind Ferrari, the runners up.

Red Bull’s failure can be laid squarely on Sergio Perez (see Drivers for more on this topic). For a team to prevail in their quest for the WCC, both drivers must perform if they have potentially winning cars.

All congratulations to McLaren for producing a fantastic car and employing two winning drivers. This is their ninth WCC trophy. Their eight was 26 years prior in 1998.

It is worth looking at the bottom 6 teams even though they are not in contention for the WCC trophy. One of them may surprise this year and next year when the regulations change drastically, who knows. Graphic of the last 6 teams.

F1 2024 WCC Points for Last Six Teams

Aston Martin proved that they were the best midfield team in 2024, coming sixth. With their investment in their factory, new wind tunnel, Adrian Newey, new regulations and that determination, who knows what heights the team can rise to.

Alpine, formally Renault, were coming plumb last until Brazil where they produced two podiums finishes in second and third places. This gained them a staggering 33 po1nts (the most of any team at that race) propelling them to seventh in the WCC. Another ten points at Qatar and six at Abu Dhabi kept them there. Disappointing news is that Renault will no longer produce F1 engines from next year. Renault have been involved in F1 since 1977. This involvement has been various as a constructor, engine supplier and driver development. Renault announced that their Viry-Chatillon engine factory will be repurposed after 2025. Alpine will be using Mecedes engines for 2026.

Haas were in eighth position as they have been for four of their nine years in F1. Only once have they been higher and that was in 2018 where they came fifth.
