What a season of racing F1 2024 produced. In the penultimate season of the current regulations, it was expected that the cars would converge in performance and at least the best ones did. After the Mexico GP there were still 116 WDC points avaialble and it was possible that anyone of the top 4 drivers could be the champion. The excitment increased when Lando Norris closed the gap to Max Verstappen by a furthe 3 points in the Brazil Sprint to make the gap 44 points between them. However, in the Brazil GP max won with the extra point for the fastest lap while Lando managed only 6th to widen the gap to 62 points.

The graph shows that Red Bull were dominate in the early season up to and including Miami with Max and Segio 1st and 2nd respectively. Sergio Perez fell off at this point to end the season 8th. This gave rise to Sergio being let go by Red bull at seasons end and not on the grid for 2025. I hope that the rumors floating around are correct and that Sergio will be on the 2026 grid with Cadillac. The two McLaren drivers were split by Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) who ended 3rd with Lando Noris and Oscar Piastri achieving 2nd and 4th respectively. The other Ferrari driver, Carlos Sainz, was placed 5th in the WDC just 2 points behind Oscar. For the 2025 season Carlos lost his seat to Lewis Hamilton but will be racing for Aston Martin. The Mercedes duo of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton started the season with a car that just did not have the pace to compete. This improved markedly from Spain onwards though not enough to win events. They ended with George 6th and Lewis 7th. Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) finished 9th and is clearly the best of the rest.

In the last year of these regulations, we can hope for as an exciting season or more for 2025.
